Kalaw is a small hill town in Shan State, surrounded by green hills, local villages and quiet country roads.
One of the best ways to experience Kalaw is simply to walk.
You do not need to plan a long trek or travel far from town. Step away from the main road, and within a few minutes you can find quiet streets, village life, old religious buildings and views of the surrounding hills.
Hinode Hotel is located in a peaceful area just outside the busy center of Kalaw, making it a good starting point for exploring the area on foot.

We created our own walking map to introduce some of the places around Hinode Hotel.
It is not intended to be a complete tourist map of Kalaw. Instead, it shows the places we often recommend to our guests — nearby villages, local landmarks, Cafe Kalaw and some pleasant routes for a relaxed walk.

Hnee Pagoda
Hnee Pagoda is one of the interesting religious sites near Hinode Hotel and can be reached on foot from the hotel.
The pagoda is known locally for its bamboo Buddha image and offers visitors a glimpse into the religious culture of the Kalaw area.
The walk itself is also part of the experience, passing through a quieter side of town away from the main streets.
Walk through the local villages
One of our favorite things about this part of Kalaw is how close everyday village life is to the hotel.
A short walk can take you past local homes, small farms and quiet roads where people go about their daily lives.
There may not be a famous sightseeing spot around every corner — and that is exactly the point.
Sometimes the most memorable part of Kalaw is simply walking slowly and seeing how people live in the hills.

Continue toward Kalaw town
From the hotel, you can also continue toward central Kalaw.
The market, railway station, cafes and other parts of town are all within easy reach by car, and many areas can also be explored on foot if you have time.
Kalaw Market is especially worth visiting if you want to see a more lively side of town, with local produce, food and everyday shopping.
Take it slowly
Kalaw is not a place that needs to be rushed.
The cool air, hills, villages and quiet streets are part of what makes the town special.
Leave some space in your schedule, take a walk without a strict plan, and stop when something catches your eye.
That is often the best way to discover Kalaw.
